Linha Raiz, the hands behind it

On crochet, slowness, and Brazilian craftsmanship.

Linha Raiz began as a private project, a way to bring something of Brazil into the studio that wasn't a treatment. The pieces are crocheted by hand, slowly, in small numbers. The texture is part of the point.

The making

Each piece takes time the way rituals take time. There is no shortcut to the rhythm of the hands. The result is a fabric that holds the body without weight. Wearable texture, something between adornment and skin.

Quiet, careful work, the hands behind Linha Raiz.

How to care for the pieces

  • Hand wash in cool water with a gentle wool detergent.
  • Press the water out with a towel, never wring.
  • Lay flat to dry, away from direct sun.
  • Store folded, not hung. The fibre prefers to rest.

Treated this way, the pieces age beautifully, softer with wear, never tired.
